SHILLONG: The Centre has cleared the proposal worth Rs 485.02 crore for the construction of roads and long-span bridges under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Meghalaya.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Wednesday, Union Minister for Rural Development, Jairam Ramesh, said that the project proposal sent by the Meghalaya Government was recommended by the empowered committee in its meeting held on December 19 last year. Subsequently, the proposal was cleared by the ministry.
The project includes 197 roads and 32 bridges ( total length 739.75 km).
The Union Minister wanted the State Government to prepare detailed project reports and also proper monitoring of the works.
Ramesh also asked the State Government to have inspection of long span bridges before tendering the works.
According to the Minister, the state should prepare a realistic monthly completion plan and corresponding fund utilization plan.
