JOWAI: A decades old bomb was spotted by three youths inside a forest called Lum-Pahar near Umkiang in East Jaintia Hills.

According to Larry Rymbai, a resident of Umkiang village, on Sunday last, he along with two of his friends spotted the object which looked like a heavy piece of rusted iron when they went to take bath in a stream near the village.

“As we were collecting firewood, I saw the rusted heavy iron. I didn’t expect it to be a bomb,” Rymbai said. The young man informed that the bomb weighed around 4100 grams (4.1 kg) and its circumference is around 10 inches. “The length of the bomb is around 15 inches,” he said. The suspected bomb was handed over to Umkiang Patrolling post on Thursday.
