NONGSTOIN: The rampant load-shedding in Nongstoin and other pockets of West Khasi Hills District has irked the residents, particularly the parents of students who are appearing for their examinations.

In Nongstoin, the daily load-shedding is for about 7 hours a day. Even worse, in Mawshynrut, the residents enjoy electricity for just 7 hours in a day. With the board examinations just round the corner, students in West Khasi Hills District are not able to stay up to their daily routine preparations.

Many businesses that depend solely on electricity in Mawshynrut like internet- cafes, Xerox machines, photo studios, mobile downloading, tyre repair and others have been hit hard with the current load-shedding.

Taking cognizance of the poor electricity in Mawshynrut, president of the KSU Mawshynrut Circle Armstrong Soshiang warned the MeCL to refrain from taking advantage of Mawshynrut. “Why is Mawshynrut being given step-motherly treatment. We demand an explanation from the Government for the sudden crisis in electrictity, especially in Mawshynrut or else, we would have to take necessary steps to pressurize the Government for restoration of electricity.”
