Increase in voters for Council polls

Females outnumber males

SHILLONG: There is an increase of over 1 lakh voters in the upcoming district council election to the KHADC and JHADC compared to the total number of voters in 2009.
As per the latest electoral rolls which was compiled as the delimited constituencies, there is an addition of another 1, 81,850 voters in the two district councils who will exercise their franchise during the February 24 district council elections.
In the KHADC, the total number of voters now is 6, 68,398 as compared to the last district council election in 2009 which was 5, 30,599.
Meanwhile, in the JHADC, the total number of voters at present is 2, 09, 217 while in 2009, it was registered at 1, 65,166.
Like the previous years, female voters have again outnumbered the male voters. Of the 8, 77,615 voters the number of women voters is 4, 53, 739.
Mentionably, 123 candidates will vie for a seat at the KHADC out of which 12 are women candidates, 89 for the JHADC including two women candidates.
Twenty-nine members each will be elected to both the KHADC and the JHADC, while one member each will be nominated to complete the 30-member Houses.
