Pine Mount School admissions

SHILLONG: The UDP has urged the Education department to declare the result for admission into KG classes in Pine Mount School at the earliest.
“We urge upon your good office to expedite the matter at the earliest, as this is reflective of the concern of your Department,” UDP secretary Allantry F Dkhar said in a memorandum submitted to Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education Prof RC Laloo here on Friday.
According to Dkhar, in the interest of the children who till date are not sure of the school they would be attending, it is only fair that the results be announced as per performance recorded at the interview, as a measure to restore public confidence in this school, which is considered highly esteemed.
He said that it is also unfair for the parents awaiting admission, who have adhered to all strictures prescribed by the school authorities, to have to seek admission elsewhere in this late hour.
“Who will be accountable for those students who fail to secure admission after the results of Pine Mount is announced? It is also not understood as to why this delay in announcement of results for interviews that were completed in November last year,” Dkhar said.
Earlier, it was reported that alleged political interference in the selection of pupils for admission into the KG class in Pine Mount School has come to the fore with sources from the Education department revealing that Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education Dr. RC Laloo is holding on to the files related to admission.
According to the sources, the school authorities had conducted the interviews for admission in mid-November and had finalized the list of selected candidates in the same month itself.
However, the school authorities could not declare the results due to alleged political and bureaucratic influences, the sources informed.
