Khongjoh flays Cong for denying party ticket

SHILLONG: After deciding to support the sitting legislator and UDP candidate from Mawkynrew constituency Remington Pyngrope in the upcoming district election, the Congress candidate from Mawkynrew in the last Assembly election Drola Khongjoh has finally come out publicly to criticize the Congress leadership for playing politics in denying him the ticket.

“I am not against the Congress party. But I am against the leadership of the party who are misusing their positions,” Khongjoh who is also senior leader of the Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee (MBCC) said in a statement issued here on Sunday.

He further alleged that the party leaders have played their own game to indirectly campaign against him which led to his defeat in the last Assembly election.

“Even though I was the official party candidate, the party leaders never campaigned in my favour,” Khongjoh said while also claiming that the 5500 votes which he got in the last Assembly election were not all Congress votes.

“It is the vote of my own supporters,” he said

The Congress leader also informed that all his supporters are supporting Pyngrope in the upcoming election. Earlier, the MPCC Election Committee has awarded the party ticket to former HNLC member Banteidor Lyngdoh who contested Assembly poll from Mawkynrew constituency as an independen
