Anti-influx mechanism

SHILLONG: The 13 pro-ILP pressure groups are likely to complete the exercise of formulating the points of demand to be submitted to the State Government on the mechanism to be adopted to tackle the problem of influx of illegal immigrants in Meghalaya within two weeks.

“We have got our own set of plans on the mechanism which would be best suited to tackle the problem of influx. We would highlight all these in the points of demand which shall be submitted to the State Government,” HNYF general secretary Sadon K Blah said here on Sunday.

Informing that they are on the job to formulate the points of demand, Blah said that the exercise is likely to be completed within a fortnight.

Blah refused to comment on the 22-point note in which the Government expressed its inability to implement the ILP as demanded by the pressure groups.

“At the moment, we would like to focus on the task at hand. We would give an appropriate reply to the Government in our points of demand,” the HNYF general secretary said.

In the 22-point representation to the NGOs, the Government had said that the implementation of the ILP would send a wrong message about the image of the State which is being projected as progressive, liberal and forward looking.

When asked if they have received copies of all the 52 existing Acts related to influx from the government, Blah said that so far, they have received copies of around 20 Acts.

“We would submit our points of demand even without studying all the 52 Acts. It is not necessary to study all of them since we have already received all the important ones,” the HNYF general secretary said.
