SHILLONG: The State Home Department has notified the Supreme Court order related to restrictions on the use of red beacons and multi-tone horns on vehicles.

Though the notification was dated January 28, the statement regarding the notification was released to the media only on Wednesday.

As far as Meghalaya is concerned, those who can avail red bacons include Chairman of State Planning Board, Chairperson of Meghalaya Public Service Commission, Chief Secretary, Chief Justice of the High Court, Judges of the High Court and all those have been equated with salary, perks, and status as those mentioned here.

Moreover, Chief Minister, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Speaker and the Deputy Speaker are also allowed use of red beacons. If the status of the Parliamentary Secretaries is equated with that of a Deputy Minister, they can also avail red beacons.

Neither the Director General of Police nor other police officials can avail the red beacons as they are directed to use only blue beacons or a mixture of blue and white colours. The use of multi-tone horns has also been restricted by the Supreme Court.
