Radwanska, Ivanovic dumped out of Dubai Championships

DUBAI: After recording a morale-boosting victory in the first round, Ana Ivanovic fell tamely to a stronger looking Venus Williams 6-1, 6-2 at the Dubai Championships on Wednesday in the second round.

Also shocked were second seed Agnieszka Radwanska, who lost 6-4, 6-1 to Flavia Pennetta, and fourth seed Sara Errani, who was taken out by Sorana Cristea 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

The eighth seed Caroline Wozniacki, however, progressed through to the next round with a straightforward 6-4, 6-4 victory over Annika Beck.

The latter had defeated Sam Stosur in the first round.

In other matches, fifth seed Jelena Jankovic got past Lucie Safarova in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, while Alize Cornet was a 6-3, 6-4 victor over Kirsten Flipkens. (Agencies)
