SHILLONG: The State Government has ordered a high level inquiry into the alleged racket pertaining to illegal toll gates along NH-62 in Garo Hills.
“I have directed the Chief Secretary to constitute a high level inquiry into this alleged racket of setting up of illegal toll gates,” Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma said on Friday.
Dr. Sangma informed that the Chief Secretary have been asked to designate an appropriate officer to carry out the investigation.
“We would take appropriate action against those involved if the allegations are found to be true,” the Chief Minister said, while informing of a standing government order issued in 2010 banning operation of check gates or toll gates along the national highway without requisite permission from the government.
The Chief Minister assured that the enquiry will ascertain details and expose anyone involved in violation of the government notification.
“We will not tolerate any nonsense and we will ensure that anyone found guilty of breaking the law is brought to book, and I mean anyone,” the Chief Minister asserted.
Earlier, the Goalpara Truck Owners’ Association had threatened to move the Centre to spill out the names of those involved in the racket of setting up of illegal toll gates along NH-62 in Garo Hills.
The Truckers’ body, which is supported by labour unions and the North Eastern Truck Owners’ Association, had also warned of withdraw trucks from carrying fuel and LPG cylinders if the Meghalaya Government did not take any action against the illegal toll gates within seven days.
