AMPATI: The Skill Development Programme on Bakery, which was held at Ampati Mini Stadium from February 18, last, concluded here with a short valedictory function on Saturday afternoon.
The five-day training programme was organized under IBDLP by District Commerce & Industries Centre (DCIC), Tura, in collaboration with the JM Bakers Academy, Coimbatore, Kerala, during which the participants were imparted training on the art of making and baking breads, cakes, pastries, biscuits, pizzas, chocolates, rolls, et al.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ampati, P K Boro urged the participants to put into use the skills that they have acquired during the training and be self-reliant.
He also suggested to the trainees that can register themselves as a self-help group or a society to enable them to set up a bakery unit, as it would not be easy for them to start any project individually.
The main resource person of the programme, J Lawrence from JM Bakers, Coimbatore, informed the gathering that this was the first time that he has travelled such a long distance in his training career and said that he was happy that he agreed when he was asked by the Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma to come and conduct the training in Meghalaya.
He added that despite the communication problem, the participants were very hardworking and quick to learn.
Earlier, the General Manager, DCIC, Tura, P R Marak in his introductory address, said that this training programme was organized to enable the educated unemployed youths to start their own ventures for their livelihood and now that they have undergone this training they can apply for schemes like PMEGP, National Mission on Food Processing and other schemes.
Additional SP, Ampati, Ramesh Singh and Functional Managers from DCIC, Tura, JT Sangma and DFR Marak, Industrial Promotion Officers, BD Shira and TR Sangma were among others who were present on the occasion and assisted in distributing certificates to the trainees in the programme.
