SHILLONG: Voting has been deferred in a polling station in West Khasi Hills District after the Returning Officer of Pariong-Mawthadraishan constituency under KHADC reported on Saturday that the names of two villages – Phyllut and Mawkhan Wahkhwang – were missing from the electoral rolls. Both the villages are under Marngor polling station of Pariong-Mawthadraishan district council constituency.

The State Government, with the approval of the Governor on Sunday decided to defer the election in Marngor polling station to February 26 in order to enable the eligible voters from two villages to exercise their electoral rights in the election to the KHADC.

The Returning Officer has accordingly been advised to call back the polling party assigned to Marngor polling station and inform the contesting candidates, political parties and the residents of the respective areas of the latest development. With the change of date, Sunday was fixed as the date for publication of the draft electoral roll for voters under Phyllut and Mawkhan Wahkhwang villages and the public notice inviting filing of claims and objections was also notified.

The hearing of claims, objections and disposal will be held till 3 pm on February 25 and the final publication of the electoral roll for the two villages will be done the same day.
