Fire destroys Nagaland Zoo areas in Rangapahar
Kohima: A big jungle fire that broke out inside Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP) area in Rangapahar, near Dimapur, had razed around three hectares of forest area was destroyed at the north eastern side of the Park yeson Friday. In a press release issued by the Officer in Charge of NZP Obed Bohovi Swu said that the fire was brought under control and extinguished before it could spread further with the assistance from fire brigade, the park staff and personnel of 1st Nagaland Armed Police, E- Company and 9th Indian Reserve Battalion, F- Company deployed at the Park. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Swu said that the fire did not affect any of the captive animals, however, some vegetation has been destroyed. The staff and the security personnel posted at the park have been put on full alert to avoid future incidences. Meanwhile, the park management has thanked the Fire Department for the prompt action and reaching the spot on time and putting out the fire and also expressed Mgratitude to the company commanders and jawans of 1st NAP, E-Coy and 9th IR, F- Coy for the valuable assistance in fighting the fire. Eastern Nagaland Students to tour 20 constituencies
KOHIMA: The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), with the aim to empower people in the twenty eastern constituencies of Nagaland state, will embark on a ‘Wheel tour,’ under the theme ‘Wheel of the Mind.’In a statement issued by ENSF, it said that the tour will start from Longleng on March 7 and conclude at Pungru on March 27. The tour is aimed to create awareness among the rural masses on their rights and provision and to encourage conscious participation in development of rural areas. The tour will cover four different features & exercise: training for survey, career guidance, seminar on development and developmental assessment. The training for survey exercise will include a survey of the present educational status and an evaluation of each individual’s per capita income. Under the career guidance exercise, students from standard 9 and educated youths will be targeted. The seminars will educate rural stakeholders in understanding the rights and provisions of all centrally sponsored schemes.The Federation will also be assessing and inspecting all developmental works such as roads, school buildings and other infrastructural development. ENSF has asked all contractors currently undertaking construction works within eastern jurisdiction to be stationed at their work places. (UNI)
Nagaland minister raises Naga issue
Kohima: Inaugurating a building at Thetsiimi village under Phek district, Nagaland Minister pitched for raising Naga issue at the Centre. While addressing a public gathering during the inauguration of Government High School and Village Development Board (VDB) Multipurpose Building, state minister Merentoshi R Jamir shared the concern for the Naga issue and said the DAN government has decided that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will contest in the forthcoming general election and voice out in centre for the Naga cause. He urged the public to whole-heartedly support him to work for the Nagas. Youth Resource and Sports minister, on the occasion, urged the villagers to give support for the development of the school and children education and appealed them to set example to others by having good relationship with the neighbouring villages of Manipur.
He said due to introduction of “communitization” in the state, the power was in the hands of the people and community and one should utilize it wisely. (UNI)
