Tripura insurgents kidnapped 72 in three years

Agartala: The insurgency was in wane in Tripura and altogether 72 persons were kidnapped and three others killed during the past three years in insurgency related incidents, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said in the Assembly here on Monday. Replying to a question of Ratan Lal Nath (Congress), Sarkar said the insurgency was on the wane as none was killed by the ultras last year and 10 persons were kidnapped during the time, but all of them returned. In the last three years 92 insurgents of different underground groups have surrendered, he said. However, the chief minister said, there was no room for complacency and security forces remained alert to thwart any attempt by insurgents of any such attack. (PTI)

National urban health scheme launched in Nagaland

Kohima: A total of 1.75 lakh urban poor population of Kohima and Dimapur districts of Nagaland will be covered under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), a minister said. Dimapur would cover 98,096 population while in Kohima 77,030 people would come under this NUHM mission, Nagaland Minister for Health and Family Welfare Imkong L Imchen said during the launch of the NUHM here on Monday.  An amount of Rs one crore has been earmarked for implementation of NUHM in Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung districts for the last three months of the year 2013-2014, Imchen said. The urban growth has led to the rapid increase in the number of urban poor population, many of whom live in slums and other squatter settlements, the minister said. The NUHM is launched in order to effectively address the health concerns of the urban poor population, he said, adding that the initiatives under the NUHM will seek to strengthen the public health trust in urban local bodies, besides providing for cost of health care for the urban poor. NAAC accredits JNC as grade ‘Á’

Itanagar: The Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) at Pasighat has been accredited with Grade ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Council declared its accreditation to the premier institute of the state in its 66th executive committee meeting on February 21 last, official sources said here on Monday. A NAAC team visited the college from November 6 to 8 last year and conducted spot assessment of the performance and potential of the college, the sources said. The college was initially graded ‘B++’ by NAAC in 2006 and CPE status by UGC in 2010, the sources added. (PTI)

Four injured in grenade blast

Rangia: At least four persons were injured in a grenade blast at a place bordering Kamrup and Baksa districts in lower Assam on Monday. Police sources said two grenades were hurled by two motorcycle riders at Gasbari daily market near Goreswar at a around 6.10 pm injuring four persons on the spot. Police went to the site and the injured were taken to hospital. The identity of those who hurled the explosives has not been established, they said. The anti-talk NDFB (Songbijit) faction is active in the area. (PTI)
