Police-ASAK nexus : Probe ordered

SHILLONG: The State Government has ordered an inquiry into the recent incident in which two cops were arrested for allegedly supplying arms to a new militant outfit Achik Songna An Pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) in Garo Hills.

Confirming this here on Monday, Home Minister Roshan Warjri said “Action would be taken against the accused if the inquiry confirms their involvement in supplying of arms to the militant outfit.”

The arrested police personnel have been identified as Balkera Sangma of the 5th battalion and Hawaldar Major Rakesh D Shira of the 1st battalion.

The consignment consisting magazine pouches and rifle schilling was seized from a Williamnagar-bound bus when it was being ferried to the militant group from Shillong.
