JOWAI: The NCP candidate from Nartiang-Umladang constituency Moina Singh Phyllut and his polling agent Nibas Myrboh, who were arrested on Monday, were remanded in 14-day judicial custody by the district court.

Phyllut and Myrboh were arrested for allegedly instigating his supporters to damage a voting machine when voting was on to elect a new member to JHADC.

Phyllut was arrested from his residence at Nartiang while the polling agent was arrested from his residence at Umladang.

The two were allegedly involved in the attack of a Umladang Polling station in which an EVM was destroyed and the school building used as polling station was also vandalized.

Phyllut, meanwhile, filed a bail application which is likely to be heard on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, West Jaintia Hills Police made several futile attempts to arrest an Independent candidate from Raliang, Newanly Lamare for creating nuisance inside the Nongkynrih Polling Station on Monday. Following a complaint, the WJH Police tried to arrest him but he was found absconding. His son and two others were also absconding when police tried to arrest them in connection with an ‘attempt-to-murder’ case.
