Washington: US President Barack Obama at a White House event poked fun at governors with presidential ambitions, including Indian-American Bobby Jindal, saying he saw some of them “size up the drapes” during the visit.
Obama spoke to the National Governors Association yesterday after a White House black tie party the night before. He joked that he saw some governors “size up the drapes” during their visit to the executive mansion for the black tie affair, adding how he “enjoyed watching” likely contenders eye the real estate.
“One good thing about living here is that you can make all the noise you want and nobody’s going to complain,” he was quoted as saying by New York Daily News. Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick and governor of Maryland Martin O’Malley are among the rumoured Democrats who could run in 2016.
Likely Republican contenders, Louisiana Governor Jindal and Texas governor Rick Perry, were among those at the White House on Monday, but New Jersey Governor Chris Christie opted out of the presidential meeting.
He did not attend the event since he returned home for his daughter’s 18th birthday party. (PTI)
