JOWAI: The Atlanta Choir, a group of 22 members from Georgia, United States, performed here in Jowai at Tympang Club Playground to spread the message of peace and love.

The event was organised by the Unitarian North East India and the Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council along with the Unitarian Church Jowai.

This is the first time that a Choir from the West has performed in this part of the Indian sub-continent.

Choir’s Music Director, Donald Milton III, said that they have planned to visit India a year ago.

“We came here to spread the message of peace, love and good feelings amongst the nations through music,” Milton said.

The Choir team performed several of their hit numbers including Circle of Love, It Take a Village, Nearer my God to Thee, which was sung in Khasi, besides other numbers sung in Arabic, Hebrew, Sanskrit, Hungarian and Afrikaans.

Hundreds of Unitarian members witnessed the performance of the Choir.

The Choir members also paid a visit to the famous and the tallest monoliths at Nartiang Monoliths Park in Nartiang village, besides other places in the district.

“This place is fantastic, we love it; the climate, the people and the hospitality that we got is unforgettable,” said the Choir’s Music Director.
