Water policy: District Councils’ inputs awaited

SHILLONG: The State Government is awaiting the views from the three Autonomous District Councils to finalize the draft of the proposed water policy.

“The three district councils have been asked to submit their views and suggestions before we finalise the draft of the policy,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Water Resources Rowell Lyngdoh said here on Tuesday.

He also informed that they have engage one of the branch of the Government department to specifically hold a discussion with the district councils on the policy.

“We are expecting to complete the exercise very soon. We would give a final touch to the draft of the policy once we receive the feedback from the councils,” Lyngdoh said.

He also informed that he would place the policy before the Cabinet for its approval once the final draft is ready.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister informed that the original draft was circulated to all the Government departments so that they could study it.

“We had also put the draft of the policy in the public domain inviting views and suggestions. I am happy to see that many individuals and groups have come forward with their views and suggestions,” he said. Earlier, the Government had roped in German International Cooperation (GIZ) to formulate the Water Policy.
