Itanagar: The high level Central committee set up by the Central Government to examine the proposal of the Arunachal Pradesh government for creation of two Autonomous District Councils – Mon Autonomous Council for West Kameng and Tawang Districts and Patkai Autonomous Councils for Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts under the sixth schedule of the Constitution of India, arrived in Tawang Tuesday.
The team headed by committee chairman and joint secretary, NE, under Union Ministery of Home Affairs (MHA), Shambhu Singh held a meeting with the representatives of the MARDC at Tawang.
Other members of the team included Umakant director DoNER, S M Sahai, director Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs and S Saha deputy secretary, MHA, official sources from Tawang said here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Shambhu Singh stressed on the mobilization of internal resources for revenue generation. He mentioned that any state or district council should have enough capacity to run and generate its revenue.
‘We need to generate surplus resources/revenue so that we are not dependent on outer funds from the Centre or the state. For this the development of your resources especially hydro power and tourism is of utmost importance’ stated Singh.
Singh further mentioned that steps are required for the safe preservation of the social and cultural structure of the region. ‘We shall ensure and discover steps to ensure that the social integrity and cultural identity of the region is preserved’ mentioned Singh.
DoNER director Umakant called for steps to shape up the merit of the local populace. He said phase wise implementation and completion of the projects/schemes is the requisite for development of the region.
Arunachal Pradesh RWD and Tourism Minister Pema Khandu and others were also spoke in the meeting.
A meeting of senior officers from Border Roads Organisation and district administration was convened in the afternoon by the visiting delegates for discussing the issues related to various roads and latest developments for redressing the public grievances, official sources added. (UNI)
