SHILLONG: A 33-metre tall hillock stands as the final obstacle to the completion of the Dudhnoi- Mendipathar rail line project which is set to be commissioned in March paving way for the first train to chug into Meghalaya on April 1, fulfilling the long cherished dream of the State to include itself in the country’s railway map.
An official from the North-East Frontier Railway on Friday informed that work is going on to cut the hillock for laying tracks.
The official also informed that the particular work got delayed since the land was handed over to the NFR only recently and local problems including bandhs further affected the work.
The official, further, said that the Dudhnoi railway station was commissioned on Thursday while the Mendipathar station would be commissioned within two weeks.
