SHILLONG: Buoyed by the move of the regional parties to come together, People’s Candidate Forum candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, Rev. PBM Basaiawmoit, has expressed hopes of getting the support of the UDP to contest the forthcoming election.
Basaiawmoit, who has been projected by the People’s Candidate Forum, asserted that both the HSPDP and KHNAM have assured their support to him in writing.
“I got the support of HSPDP and KHNAM in writing and I hope that the UDP will also extend similar support,” Basaiawmoit said.
He ruled out joining any political party by saying that since the People’s Candidate Forum has projected him as its candidate, he will fight the election under the Forum.
He also ruled out abstaining from contesting the Lok Sabha polls for the Shillong seat.
“I have to respect the voice of the people from the rural areas and also the city youths. Hence I am committed to fight the election,” he said.
