Another job scam hits the state
SHILLONG: The filling up of 49 vacancies under the agriculture department is snowballing into a major controversy. Candidates belonging to the state quota have been neglected and gold medal winners among the candidates have not been selected.
The interview of candidates for filling up the posts of agriculture development officer, horticulture development officer and scientific officer under the agriculture department was conducted recently by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission. MPSC conducted the personal interviews from February 17 to 21 while the result of the interview was declared on February 28.
As per reports, out of the total 98 candidates belonging to the 2008 batch onwards who completed their BSC Agriculture through the State quota, only 16 of them got selected while as many as 39 candidates who got selected are those from outside the State quota. Even gold medalists were not selected, sources said on Monday.
This same trend is visible even in the appointment of doctors or nurses in the health and family welfare department. Strangely, this time round, MPSC has selected more candidates to fill up various posts and those candidates are not from the State quota. Many of the candidates under the State quota who have not been selected are dejected and are questioning the whole appointment process.
They said the decision of the State Government to send 20 students every year to various agricultural colleges in the country to obtain BSC degree in agriculture was turning out to be a futile exercise and finally students from outside the state were being given appointments.
“The whole concept of sponsoring students for BSC Agriculture should be done away with,” the disappointed candidates under the State quota said.
When contacted, the MPSC functionaries were not available for comments.
