SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong were untroubled as they defeated Laitlyngkot 6-1 in an U-14 Football Tournament match, organised by the Shillong Sports Association, at Polo Grounds on Tuesday.
Nangteiskhem Nongrum put the first goal in for Lajong (5th minute) before Mebandondor Nongkynrih struck back for Laitlyngkot three minutes later.
Thereafter it was all one-way traffic for the Reds, however, with Nangteiskhem scoring his second in the 21st minute and Batskhem Nongsiej (33rd), Bebrightson SM Pdah (38th) and Iaryngkatlang Kharkrang (49th, 53rd) adding their names to the scoresheet as well.
In the other match of the day, Malki SC put one goal past Lawmali Pyllun.
The winning goal was scored by Malki’s Anderson Nongrum in the 43rd minute.
On Wednesday Smit will take on Mawklot, while Marbisu face Mawkhar. Both games are at 4:00pm at Polo Grounds.
Mawkhar are second in Cluster II, while Marbisu are in third.
Mawklot, meanwhile, are at the bottom of Cluster IV, while Smit are in fourth place in the six-team group.
Leading each cluster, according to the table provided by the SSA on Tuesday, are Royal Wahingdoh in Cluster I, Mawryngkneng in Cluster II, Rangdajied United in Cluster III and Shillong Lajong in Cluster IV.
While not every match has been a close contest, there is still a battle on to see who tops each group.
