Emergency OPD to be set up
Fillip to maternal, child health care in Jaintia Hills
JOWAI: Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 100-bedded maternal and child health hospital to be constructed at the site of the old Jowai Civil Hospital in Panaliar locality.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr. R.C. Laloo informed that the cost of the project is Rs.18.46 crore.
The Health Minister informed that the main objective of constructing the hospital in Jowai is to provide the best health care facilities to women and children of the district both for the Urban and Rural areas as well.
He also informed that an additional amount of Rs.25 lakh has been sanctioned for setting up of the District Early Intervention Care aimed at the adolescents.
The Minister assured that an Emergency OPD would also be set up on the same premises.
“Any developmental activity undertaken is for the interest of the public; therefore, the Government needs the cooperation of the public for further progress of the society and the State,” Hek said.
Dr. Laloo expressed confidence that the proposed maternal and child care Hospital in the District will be a great blessing for the people of the district and would improve the health scenario of women and children in Jaintia Hills.
M.R. Synrem, Mission Director, National Rural Health Mission, said that the 100-bedded hospital was a necessity in the district since the Ganesh Hospital, Shillong.
“This proposed hospital in Jaintia Hills will control overcrowding at Ganesh Das Hospital and also help the poor people avail better health facilities with minimal expenditure in transportations and communication,” Synrem said.
