SHILLONG: North East powerhouse Mizoram reached the last-four stage of the Santosh Trophy with a 2-1 victory over Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
Mizoram thus topped Group A with 12 points from four matches, the only side of the 10 teams in the final round to have won all their matches.
Maharashtra (nine points) came second and have also booked a place in the semifinals.
Mizoram will take on Tamil Nadu (second place in Group B) in the first semifinal on March 7.
Group B toppers Railways, who also qualified from the North East Zone, will take on Maharashtra (also on March 7) for a place in the final.
Both semis will be broadcast live on DD Sports, the All India Football Federation website states.
Mizoram also recently won the Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament – beating Meghalaya in the final – and winning the Santosh Trophy would make them the second team to have done so from the North East, the other being Manipur in 2002-03.
Mizoram’s earlier results in Group A saw them beat Kerala 3-1 (Feb 24), Maharashtra 2-0 (Feb 28) and defending champions Services 4-1 (Mar 2).
