Smit prosper in U-14 football tourney

SHILLONG: Smit moved up to second place in Cluster IV of the U-14 Football Tournament, organised by the Shillong Sports Association, with an easy 6-1 victory over bottom team Mawklot at Polo Grounds on Wednesday.
Beamyson Kharshandi (41st minute) scored the lone goal for Mawklot, while Mebanlangkhar Muthoh (20th, 55th), Armystar Shadap (23rd), Nangskhemlang Wahlang (24th), Lakitbok Nongspung (58th) and Wanbatei Mawthoh (59th) did the business for Smit.
The other match of the day, between Cluster II teams Mawkhar and Marbisu, ended in a 1-1 draw.
Mawkhar scored first through Semion Mylliemngap (23rd) before Rostom Kharkrang (44th) equalised for Marbisu.
The two teams stay second and third, respectively.
On Thursday, Mawrynkneng will take on Umpling in Cluster II, while Nangkiew Irat and Mawlai also go head to head in Cluster I.
Both matches will be held at Polo Grounds at 4:00pm.
