Tarasso massacre
Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Thursday informed the House that the state government has urged the Union Home Ministry to constitute an independent inquiry committee to unearth the actual fact of the recent Tarasso incident.
At least 15 persons were reportedly killed due to Tarasso firing incident on January 29 last.
Responding to a query raised by senior member Laeta Umbrey during an question hour, the CM informed that the state government had also requested the Ministry for deployment of a neutral forces all along the inter-state boundary between Assam and Arunachal to ensure that such type of tragic incident does not repeat in future.
After the incident, the agitated people of Assam and some NGOs had started an indefinite economic blockade by picketing on the National Highway at various points, resulting numerous difficulties faced by the people of this land locked bordering state of Aruanchal Pradesh.
However, after a continuous approach at different level the economic blockade had been withdrawn by Assam after a few days of agitation, he said.
Considering the situation, the state government has appealed the Central government to look into the matter so that economic blockade does not repeat, he informed during the last day’s session of the Fifth Legislative Assembly.
The Chief Minister said Tarasso is situated in Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh bordering Sonitpur district of Assam.
On a number of occasions, there have been group clashes among the villagers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on boundary dispute, he informed.
The recent incident on the boundary dispute in Sango village, under the Tarasso circle of Papum Pare district, cropped up after the visit of the members of the local boundary commission (LBC) on November 12, last, for collection of evidence and first hand information report.
The LBC was constituted by the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Tarun Chatterjee. (UNI)
