BGB General arrives for Border coordination conference

SHILLONG: A twenty member delegation of Border Guard Bangladesh led by Brig General Md Habibul Karim, Region Commander, North-East Region, Sarail, Bangladesh, arrived at Shillong on Thursday for Inspectors General BSF and Region Commander BGB Level Border Coordination Conference.

It may be mentioned that the conference is held biannually between the two border guarding forces for improving the general scenario at border and to discuss the issues related to border, which may affect the tranquility and peace of border.

During the conference, trans-border issues were discussed at length and both countries sought each other’s cooperation to check the menace.

BSF PRO Mahendra Singh said that the meeting discussed the issue of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who come to the State to earn a livelihood and BGB’s concern was that their nationals are often beaten up in Meghalaya.

The meeting also discussed on the poaching of natural goods and resources of Meghalaya to Bangladesh and BSF also raised the issue of FICN and smuggling of arms from Bangladesh to the insurgent outfits in the North East.

The BSF and BGB conducts around 45 patrollings along the border on a monthly basis and now both forces are working on a strategy to further increase and sort out the problems which often comes up in the joint patrolling.
