SHILLONG: The UDP central executive committee will meet on Friday afternoon to take a decision on the party’s candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

While a section of HSPDP and KHNAM leaders are supporting the candidature of Rev. PBM Basaiawmoit sponsored by People’s Candidate’s Forum, UDP is planning to put up its own candidate since at the moment a consensus is yet to be arrived on fielding a common candidate by all the regional parties.

Earlier, the UDP had announced the candidature of its working president Paul Lyngdoh to contest the Shillong seat. There were also reports that former deputy chief minister Bindo Lanong will be considered as the UDP candidate for Shillong.

When contacted, Lanong admitted that there was a proposal in this regard, but he declined due to personal reasons.
