SHILLONG: The UDP leadership is faced with the inner-party tussle over posts of Executive Members (EMs) among the MDCs in the KHADC.

Party sources on Saturday revealed that Mawthadraishan-Pariong MDC HB Nongsiej is putting pressure on the party leadership to nominate him to the post of EM after initially agreed to give others the opportunities.

The UDP had earlier arrived at an understanding that only MDCs who are not MLAs would be nominated to the post of EMs in the Council.

According to sources, the party leadership had managed to convince both Nongsiej and Mairang MDC Metbah Lyngdoh to sit out. Both are members of the Meghalaya assembly as well. “But this latest development is putting the party leadership in dilemma,” party sources said.

The party leadership had decided to recommend the names of Shella MDC Teinwell Dkhar as Deputy CEM while Umsning MDC Donkupar Sumer, Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit and Mawkyrwat MDC Hadrian Lyngdoh had been recommended for posts of EMs.

Meanwhile, KHNAM working president and Jaiaw MDC Adelbert Nongrum has decided to sacrifice himself to allow three other MDCs to occupy posts of EMs.

With this decision of Nongrum, the three KHNAM MDCs who would represent party in the new Executive Committee are Mawlai MDC Process T Sawkmie, Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor and Mawkhar-Pynthorumkrhah James Ban Basaiawmoit. Newly elected KHADC CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit told reporters on Saturday that the names of the Executive Members would be forwarded to Governor KK Paul for his approval by Monday.

He said that ARPA has allotted the post of the Deputy Chief Executive Member to the UDP and three EMs each to the HSPDP and KHNAM. HSPDP has decided to nominate Grace Mary Kharpuri, KP Pangniang and Goodleaderson Nongsiej as executive members.
