SHILLONG: The HSPDP and KHNAM have rejected the proposal of UDP to support its working president Paul Lyngdoh as the party candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election from the Shillong Parliamentary seat.

Sources on Monday informed that the two parties while rejecting Lyngdoh’s candidature said that they would extend support to UDP if the party fields either Bindo Mathew Lanong or Nongthymmai legislator Jemino Mawthoh.

“The two parties are of the view that Lanong and Mawthoh have a better prospect of winning the Shillong seat,” sources said.

When contacted, Lanong said that the party would meet on Tuesday evening to discuss the stand of the two parties.

“We would take a decision in tomorrow’s meeting,” Lanong said.
