IMPHAL: Two kidnapped labourers of an Assam-based construction company were rescued by security forces on Monday morning from a village in Sadar Hills, Senapati district of Manipur.

According to the police, JCB operator Deboshis Mondal (30) and roller operator Ch Ajit Sinha, also 30 years, were rescued by a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and the personnel of Yairipok police from Chaningpokpi Waiphei village of Sadar Hills.

However, the village falls under Yairipok police station of Thoiubal district. Chaningpokpi Waiphei village is just 20km east of Yairipok police station.

The police source said the security force personnel were carrying out search operation in the area following a tip-off from certain quarters. The police source did not divulge the exact identity of the militant outfit responsible for kidnapping the two workers but said they were hill-based militants.

The two labourers were not harassed or tortured but, due to lack of sleep and poor food, they became frail and exhausted. They were immediately rushed to a government hospital for medical attention. (NNN)
