Emulating the example of Arvind Kejriwal, Pakistan has launched its own Aam Aadmi Party. It can be called P-AAP. It is just a way of telling that the Pakistan AAP and the Indian AAP are miles apart. Of course, the Pakistan AAP is also set to clean up the system in the country, attacking corrupt politicians and bureaucrats who are legion there. What will be the Pakistan party’s symbol? Kejriwal believes in simplicity, dresses up like a common man and his party symbol if the good old broom. Pakistan likes style and it is to be assumed that the P-AAP will have a more elegant symbol. The social mission of the party will presumably be in the hands of the country’s socialites flanked by liveried attendants.
Admittedly, the P-AAP is not the only subject for tongue-in-cheek compliments. Kejriwal’s AAP also has fault lines which are manifest. But the symbol of a broom gives it a different complexion. However, the AAP is modern in being associated with cutting edge technology and social media. The aam aadmi are still not clear in their minds about what the party stands for. In any event, it is a cause for rejoicing that Pakistan has now got an aam aadmi party which not only follows new political trends in India but also recognizes rampant corruption in Pakistan’s politics and society. Who knows? Both countries may sometime or other take to peace and non-violence which will be a consummation devoutly to be wished for.
