SHILLONG: Unknown miscreants, suspected to be timber smugglers, fired few rounds in the air near Adokgre Forest Beat House in North Garo Hills on March 10, reports said on Tuesday.

Out of fear, the Forest staff took refuge at Adokgre ADC.

Earlier in February, armed miscreants entered the Forest Beat House at Adokgre and assaulted one of the staff and forcibly took away three sal logs and four teak logs in a Tata DI vehicle (AS-01L-8349) towards Assam.

After the incident, the Forest Department had decided to strengthen the forest offices to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future and the process is on.
