Govt reacts to issues only after agitations: Chyne
Chyne (UDP) has slammed the State Government for reacting to issues only after agitations are called by the pressure groups and not taking pro-active steps to solve pertinent issues affecting the State.
He said that when the agitations are called the government holds meetings after meetings to solve the issue, whereas after the agitations stop, the Government again goes slow in resolving the problem.
“The classic example is the attitude of the Government with regards to the inter-State boundary dispute with Assam. Many would recall that the State Government was eager to resolve the boundary dispute with Assam when the Langpih incident had occurred,” the Sohra UDP observed.
He said that there was great expectation that the boundary problem would be resolved at the earliest.
“But this did not happen and the boundary problem still remains unresolved. Our people residing along the inter-State border are still suffering and Assam continues to encroach into our land,” Chyne said.
The Sohra legislator also wanted to know if dialogues with Assam were continuing and wanted the government to set a time frame for permanent resolution of the boundary issue.
“There are doubts in the minds of the people about whether the Government is really serious about resolving this problem once and for all,” Chyne said.
Referring to the Sohra Eco Restoration project, Chyne wanted to know whether the project is still underway.
“In the last Assembly session, Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh had assured that the programme would continue. But I am not sure whether the programme is still continuing at the ground level,” he said.
He informed that he had received information that the State Government had diverted an amount of Rs.27 crore which was earmarked by the Planning Commission for the project.
“I would also like a clarification from the Government on whether the funds were actually diverted,” Chyne said.
