Actress Shraddha Kapoor is likely to step in the shoes of noted actress Rati Agnihotri for the remake of Shaukeen. For the remake of Basu Chatterjee’s 1982 hit film, the makers are looking for a new leading lady after Nargis Fakhri walked out citing date issues. The makers are in talks with Shraddha for the role.

The original film revolved around three old men – Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and AK Hangal – who try to impress a young dancer – Rati Agnihotri. In the original film, Mithun Chakraborty played the role of Rati’s boyfriend. Now, Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher will be reprising the roles of the three old men while Akshay Kumar will step into the shoes of Mithun Chakraborty. “Talks are on with Shraddha but nothing is finalised,” sources told PTI, without divulging any further information.

Earlier the film was to be directed by Rumi Jaffrey, who directed God Tussi Great Ho. Later Abhishek Sharma of Tere Bin Laden fame replaced him. The film is scheduled to go on floors in April. Apparently, Nargis Fakhri was being approached for a Hollywood film and she was keen on doing it. She asked the producers of Shaukeen to change the schedule at the last minute which it seems was not possible for them.

“I was very excited about ‘Shaukeen’ and we had been preparing for a while now.

There was another opportunity in the pipeline and we tried to work out the dates so that I could be a part of both but the dates were clashing.

I couldn’t have asked the team to wait for me, so it’s heartbreaking but I had to let the film go,” Nargis said. (PTI)
