SHILLONG: Congress leader John F Kharshiing, who was one of the aspirants for the party ticket for the Shillong seat, has decided to abide by the decision of the High Command in allotting the ticket to sitting MP Vincent H Pala.
In a statement issued on Friday, Kharshiing said that he was ready to abide by the decision and wisdom of AICC in allotting the ticket to Pala.
“We would like to state that we accept and will abide by the decision and wisdom of the All India Congress Committee and will work towards the success of the Congress Party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2014,” said Kharshiing, who is also the vice-president, East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee, and member of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Executive Committee.
The statement of Kharshiing assumes significance as speculation was rife that he would contest Shillong seat as Independent or by joining other political parties.
“It is a fact that I received several calls and people even wanted me to contest the Shillong seat, but I wanted to settle the matter once and for all and I have accepted the decision of AICC”, Kharshiing said.
