PBM launches 15-point action plan for Shillong

SHILLONG: Rev. PBM Basaiawmoit, who is the candidate supported by Common People’s Front to contest the Shillong Lok Sabha seat on Saturday unveiled a 15-point programme of action for the next five years for Shillong.

Addressing a news conference on Saturday here, Rev. Basaiawmoit said that his motto is to serve and struggle with the voiceless and the marginalized for truth, peace and justice.

Rev. Basaiawmoit, who is supported by both HSPDP and KHNAM, had also brought similar action plan when he contested 2009 Lok Sabha polls on an HSPDP ticket.

Rev. Basaiawmoit’s action plan includes resistance to anti-conversion laws, fight for the rights of Christian Dalits, review of RTE Act and amendment of Foreign Contribution Regulation Acts of 2010, 2011, so that NGOs are not affected, review of Look East Policy, prior consent of people before executing projects related to natural resources, extension of the Sixth Schedule to all the tribal areas of whole of India and right to recall and discretion to use EVMs or ballot papers by the respective states.

Other points in the action plan include putting pressure for constitution of a second State Re-Organization Commission to form smaller states on linguistic lines, availing of funds by registered NGOs from Union Ministries, signing of UN guiding principal on displaced people and international convention on the rights of indigenous people by India, review of India’s Export Import Policy and Foreign Direct Investment Policy, framing of National Policy for Farmers and repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958.

Rev. Basaiawmoit said that he would be able to make a difference once elected from Shillong seat.
