Guwahati: ‘Adulterated Modi tea’ is tarnishing the image and name of world-famous Assam tea, Assam CM Tarun Gogoi said here on Monday, continuing his tirade against his Gujarat counterpart and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

‘The Modi tea is adulterated. It is a combination of just spices and milk. But Assam tea is pure tea and Modi tea is tarnishing Assam tea’a brand,’ Gogoi said.

Gogoi claimed that tea producers and auctioneers of Gujarat, who have business in Assam, have approached him with the dilemma of selling Assam tea as ‘Modi tea’, stating that it would compromise the brand of Assam tea.

The Assam CM maintained that Assam tea has a special fame world across and ‘Modi tea’ is seeking to dislodge it with the BJP trying to brand tea produced in the state as ‘Modi tea’.

Gogoi had also previously targeted ‘Modi tea’, stating it was a gimmick and would tarnish Assam tea’s brand.

The BJP had come up with ‘Modi tea stalls’ after the Congress had targeted Modi over his starting off as a tea vendor years ago. (UNI)
