Rahul to kick start Cong campaign in State today

SHILLONG: All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhi will formally kick off the Lok Sabha election campaign in Meghalaya on Tuesday. He would visit the North Garo Hills and spend a night in Shillong.

Rahul would arrive at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills at 2.30 p.m. to address a public meeting in support of party candidate Daryl William Momin after addressing a rally at Hapoli in the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. Daryl is pitted against former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A. Sangma.

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee Working president Deborah Marak said that the AICC leader then would fly to Shillong where he will attend an internal party meeting at Hotel Pinewood at 6.30 pm.

Rahul would halt in the city for a night and on Wednesday and would travel to Manipur and Mizoram to campaign for party candidates.

“We expect at least 30,000 people to turn up for the rally on Tuesday at Resubelpara,” Cabinet Minister Deborah Marak, who is overseeing the preparations at Resubelpara, said over the phone.

Deborah Marak recently launched the election campaign by introducing party candidate Daryl Momin in a public meeting held at Williamnagar.

“It was an introductory meeting with party workers to make the people to familiarize with the candidate”, Marak said.

Momin is the grandson of Meghalaya’s first chief minister late Capt. Williamson A. Sangma. He entered politics in 2012 after completing his MBA from Bond University in Australia.
