Jindal lodges complaint with EC against two news channels
New Delhi: Congress MP and chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Naveen Jindal ton Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against two news channels belonging to a group for allegedly telecasting false news against him. “They have run 85 false news items against me since March 5, when code of conduct for the general elections came in place… We today approached the Election Commission, seeking stoppage of this malicious campaign,” he told reporters after meeting Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath and other officials in the Commission. Jindal, who is seeking re-election from Kurukshetra in Haryana, said that the two channels were running false news items against him as he had exposed them in 2012 seeking Rs 100 crore for telecasting favourable news. “With evidence we showed how their editors were seeking Rs 100 crore from us. We had exposed them and because of that, now they are running false news everyday against me, which is in violation of section 125 of the Representation of People Act and the guidelines issued by the Commission to the media,” he said. According to Jindal, the Commission assured him that they would take necessary action. Jindal is also planning to lodge a complaint against the two channels with the Editors’ Guild and other media-related bodies, he said. (PTI)
Rahul’s poll win dream like filling balloon with holes: Sena
Mumbai: Launching a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, Shiv Sena on Tuesday said the Congress vice president’s dream of victory in the Lok Sabha elections is like filling gas in balloons with holes. “It’s hilarious that Congress, which can’t find candidates, is claiming to win more than 200 seats. (There is) anti-Congress wave in country, no one wants Congress ticket,” Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’. Exuding confidence that NDA will win more than 275 seats in the upcoming polls, he said, “Rahul Gandhi’s dream of poll victory is like filling gas in balloons with holes. NDA will win more than 275 seats in the upcoming elections under (BJP’s prime ministerial nominee) Narendra Modi.” “When Rahul Gandhi said that UPA will win more than 200 seats, he shocked everybody. His statement would have also shocked his mother and AICC chief Sonia Gandhi,” the Sena leader said. Taking a dig at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, he claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party will “disappear” after the elections. (PTI)
Nomination for 20 LS seats in Rajasthan to begin today
Jaipur: Filing of nomination papers for 20 parliamentary constituencies of Rajasthan which go to poll on April 17 will begin tomorrow. The process of filing nomination papers for the first phase of elections will start tomorrow in 20 Lok Sabha seats: Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur-rural, Jaipur, Ajmer, Nagaur, Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, Udaipur, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Kota and Jhalawar-Baran. The exercise will continue till March 26. The scrutiny of papers will take place on March 27, and withdrawal of nomination would be allowed by March 29. The second phase of LS polls in Alwar, Bharatpur Karauli- Dholpur, Dausa, and Tonk-Sawaimadhopur will be held on April 24 for which the election notification would be issued on March 29. In the present Lok Sabha, out of 25 seats in Rajasthan the Congress has got 20 MPs, BJP: 4, and one Independent. Congress highcommand has fielded so far 8 candidates; four sitting MPs: Jitendra Singh from Alwar, Ijey Singh from Kota, Dr Girija Vyas from Chittorgarh, and Raghuveer Meena from Udaipur. Four others Contestants are: Raj Bala from Jhunjhunu, Shankar Punnu from Bikaner, Harish Choudhary from Barmer, and P S Jat from Sikar. BJP has not yet announced any list of candidates in Rajasthan though Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has been camping in Delhi to finalise the candidates’ name, the party sources said. (PTI)
MP minister Vijay Shah’s brother joins Congress
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh food and civil supplies minister Vijay Shah’s elder brother Ajay Shah on Tuesday joined the Congress party. Ajay joined the Congress at its office here in the presence of state party unit president Arun Yadav and Leader of Opposition in MP Assembly Satyadev Katare. The BJP minister’s brother was working as an assistant general manager with the Canara Bank, from where he had taken voluntary retirement on March 10. Replying to questions, Ajay, who had joined the BJP in 1989, clarified he was not joining Congress to get a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections. Ajay hails from Makdai, which is a part of Betul-Harda parliamentary constituency. Congress has given ticket to Rahul Chouhan for this constituency Yadav said Chouhan’s ticket will not be changed in the wake of Ajay’s entry into the Congress. (PTI)
