Push for popularising judo in state

SHILLONG: A 10-day free demo cum coaching camp in judo began in Nongstoin on Tuesday, organised by the District Sports Office (West Khasi Hills) and the Meghalaya Judo Association (MJA) under the auspices of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
On March 15, a similar camp concluded in Mawkyrwat under the supervision o fthe judo coach of the SAI Shillong Training Centre along with senior judokas of the MJA.
The MJA invites school and college students from Nongstoin to register their names with the DSO.
The camps are being organised to popularise and promote judo in all the districts of Meghalaya.
Therefore, the MJA requests martial arts clubs, youth clubs, athletes, youngsters, students, Seng Samla, Seng Khynroo Khyllood and youth clubs in Ampati, Williamnagar, Tura, Nongpoh, Jowai and Khliehriat to come forward and register their names with their respective DSO so as to enable the programme in due course of time whereby the State Level Judo Championship 2014 will be held in Shillong amongst judokas of all 11 districts of the state.

The MJA will also take part in the next North East Games 2014, to be held later in the year.
The Association also announced that Lalnunpuia, a noted judoka from Mizoram who works at the Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong, will take part in some of the remaining camps.
Judo is the only martial art form in the Olympic Games.
