SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma informed that various tourism projects proposed at Resulbelpara, North Garo Hills were hanging fire due to flaws in project proposals.

“These projects were proposed to the Centre even before identifying the land. The Department should have made efforts to acquire the land first,” Dr Sangma said while replying to a question raised by NPP legislator Nihim D Shira in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Dr Sangma said the contractors are not able to implement the projects since the rate quoted for these projects in 2007-2008 would be too low to complete the project at present. Out of seven projects including tourist lodge at Resulbelpara, Nackachikong picnic spot and viewing gallery footpath at Mokmadare, he said the State Government had to surrender the funds of some of the projects to the Centre due to their non-utilisation.

While replying to a question whether new tenders have been floated for these projects under the NEC schemes during the last two fiscal years, the Chief Minister informed that no schemes were sanctioned during the year 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 under the NEC for Resulbelpara.
