SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Thursday clarified that the ICU at Tura was non functional when he took his mother- in- law to Tura Civil Hospital.
Dr Sangma recently said in the Assembly that his mother- in- law died since there was no ICU at Tura.
However there was criticism that though the ICU was inaugurated in December 2012, it remained non- functional.
Reacting to the news report in this regard, Dr Sangma said that in the past there were lack of equipments in civil hospitals across the state. However, now the situation is changing as through the intervention of the Government, instruments were bought. He also said the Government was committed to see that the equipments are made operational.
Recalling the case of his mother in law, the Chief Minister said that when she was shifted from Holy Cross Hospital in the 108 vehicle, oxygen ran out and subsequently she was taken to Tura Civil Hospital where she expired.
