Slum slur

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Thursday assured that a senior officer would be entrusted with the task of engaging with the Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai to end of the stand-off on the slum tag on Mawlai.
After different localities in Mawlai prevented garbage laden trucks to enter Marten dumping yard in Mawlai Mawiong since Wednesday, heaps of garbage were visible in several localities of the state capital.
The protest was against the statement of Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh who said in the Assembly that Mawlai was one among the notified slums.
The Chief Minister, however, said that in the past the concerned state department might have projected certain areas as slums to avail funds, but the matter would be examined to understand the correct position.
