School kits distributed to children

SHILLONG: Hope Media Production house, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Shillong, distributed school kits to 24 children from economically weaker families.
Each kit comprised of a school bag with 13 essential items like school books, notebook, pen, pencil and eraser. The school kits were sponsored by the office of Deputy Commissioner under the CMYDS scheme. The children who received the school kits are school children from different schools of Shillong city and outskirts of Shillong.
The distribution of school kits was held in a one day programme cum “Mock Youth Parliament” on Tuesday at Bharat Scouts and Guides Campus, Shillong.
The programme was organized in collaboration with Deputy Commissioner Office, Shillong as closing function of the District Youth Festival which was organized in different parts of the district starting from 10th February 2014.
KJ Lyngdoh, OSD of Meghalaya State Legal AID Authority, Shillong attended the function as Chief Guest. Many innovative and locally need based activities were conducted at village level in coordination with different local youth clubs.

In order to promote and strengthen the spirit of voluntarism, local youth club members actively took part in all the activities organized under the programme at the village level.
