Editor,
Mukul Sangma, while promoting the Congress candidate, Daryl Momin, accused PA Sangma of taking people for a ride for a long time. The veteran who has been in politics for more than 30 years has not done enough to develop Garo Hills. In his reaction, the veteran NPP candidate claims that he is instrumental in setting up 13 colleges and 100 higher secondary schools in Garo Hills. Are there really 13 colleges and 100 higher secondary schools in Garo Hills? How can PA Sangma tell such a blatant lie? And we people are expected to just swallow these lies?
But is Mukul Sangma also telling lies? Is he too taking the people for a ride? The people of Meghalaya in general and Garo Hills in particular deserve to know the reason why Daryl Momin was given the Congress ticket. The whole world will come to know after the MP election. We are made to falsely believe that since Daryl, who was not even a Congress member till recently, is the grandson of Capt. William Sangma, so he was given the party ticket. This is far from the truth. The Congress has forgotten the first Chief Minister long ago. Daryl was given the ticket because of personal reasons and not because he is the grandson of the former Chief Minister.
I see another dangerous trend in the whole affair. Mukul Sangma and PA Sangma are both making Garo Hills their personal ‘fieldom’. Be alert friends to the design. For a long time Garo Hills has been controlled by the families of these two heavy weights. PA Sangma has put his sons and daughter in politics. Mukul has his wife, brother and now Daryl Momin a would-be relative in politics. Friends, do we make ourselves gullible and believe whatever they say? Whom do you vote in the coming MP election? I will cast my vote for the ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) to do my bit in saving Garo Hills from dynastic politics and hereditary rule. .
Yours etc.,

Is Indian government communal?
Editor,
Your esteemed readers are perhaps aware that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been issuing commemorative coins since 2008. The public is however unaware of the policy the Indian government has taken with regard to issue of commemorative coins. As a non-Hindu, born and brought up in secular India, I am shocked to find the Centre and RBI issuing commemorative coins of denomination of INR 5 and INR 10 with the image of Vaisno Devi, a Hindu deity, embossed on them.
Till recently Nepal was the only Hindu country in the world. Now that we have no Hindu country on this earth, could it be that India (Bharat?) is being tempted by some communal political parties to become a Hindu Nation by adopting such anti-secular policies even without amending the Constitution of India? That’s the question I have for those holding power in the Central government of India. Can I hope to get a satisfying reply before I go to the polls to vote for or against the present government?

No caretaker for this park
Editor,
The park adjacent to the official residence of the Deputy Commissioner Jowai, bang opposite the market selling pigs and goats on the Iewmusiang Market Day is left unattended after the official commemoration. The park was beautifully constructed with strong walls and beautiful monoliths and there is also a small hut constructed as a resting place. Now it is left unkempt and overgrown with bushes. There is no one to maintain the park. At one time children used to enjoy sliding or swinging over there. Now children continue to play in this bushy park, not knowing that they may be affected by all kinds of diseases since people urinate and use it as an open latrine. At night time the park becomes a refuge for anti social elements. Why is this park allowed to go to seed? What was the purpose in constructing this park? It is a waste of public money. Which Government department has to take care of it? Big trees that have been there for ages have been cut down thereby degrading the environment. If maintained the park would have been an attractive location for parents to bring their children to play in the park during weekends or holidays. But as of now the park is a breeding place for mosquitoes, rodents and other animals. During summer there is a possibility of snakes moving around. The park has become an eyesore to passers-by in general and to Mynthong locality in particular. As a concerned resident of Mynthong, Jowai, I request the concerned authorities to restore the park to its former glory.
Yours etc.,
