Election officials urged to maintain guidelines
Itanagar: All election officials of Arunachal Pradesh have been urged to go through the Election Commision’s guidelines to make April-9 Lok Sabha and assembly elections smooth and hassle free. Central Expenditure Observer for Aalo East, Aalo West, Rumgong, Liromoba, Likabali and Basar Assembly constituencies, Pradip Gurumurthy said on Friday the officers should focus on maintenance of prescribed registers and ensure that all political parties maintain their accounts properly. Regarding illegal movement of cash, liquor or gifts in kind, Gurumurthy asked all the officers to submit their reports on daily basis, official sources said. (PTI)
Bru refugees in Tripura will be allowed to vote: CEO
Agartala: The displaced people of Bru community from neighbouring Mizoram, now sheltered in six evacuee camps in North Tripura district, will be allowed to vote through postal ballots, the Tripura Chief Electoral Officer said here on Friday. Bru voters, whose names are registered in the electoral rolls of Mizoram, would be allowed to exercise their franchise through postal ballot papers from April 01 to 03, Tripura Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal said. About 37,000 refugees in the relief camps belong to 10 assembly constituencies in Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei districts of Mizoram, state election department sources said. (PTI)
UDF changes candidate for Mizoram assembly bypoll
Aizawl: The United Democratic Front, an eight-party opposition alliance, on Friday changed its common candidate for the by-election to the Hrangturzo assembly seat to be held on April nine. Dawngliana, who was selected by the UDF to represent the alliance in the Hrangturzo by-poll, pulled out from the contest Friday morning leaving his party in the lurch with the last day for filing nominations being Saturday. An emergent meeting of the UDF subsequently selected H. Lalduhawma, a retired government servant, who unsuccessfully contested the assembly polls on November 25 last year from the same seat as candidate of the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP).
