Guwahati: The outlawed Bodo tribe militant outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) has threatened to disrupt poll scene in Assam by issuing threat to a section of poll candidates.

The Lok Sabha polls are being held in three phases in Assam on April 7, 12 and 24 in total 14 constituencies.

In a statement emailed to a section of media here, the outfit termed the Congress candidate from Tezpur constituency, Bhupen Bora as ‘anti-Bodo’ and called upon the Bodo people not to vote for Bora alleging he was promoting anti-Bodo and anti-tribal organisations in the State.

Apart from Bora, the NDFB also issued threat to Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MLA, Padma Hazarika also accusing him of dividing the Bodo community.

Hazarika wasrecenty expelled from the AGP for wasting his vote in the last Rajya Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, Assam police has made additional arrangements to augment security of Bhupen Bora in view of the threat issued by NDFB (S).

However, Bora has dismissed the threat saying he would not be cowed by such threat from an anti-national and outlawed organisaton.

Earlier this month, the NDFB (S) released a video-clipping to announce the launch of an operation to target politicians, Assam Police Director General of Police (DGP) and superintendents of police.

The video-clipping with the voice of an unidentified cadre of the revealed that NDFB(S) sent its 35-member ” Iragdao Brigade” to launch “2nd Urailang Operation” in the state.

The cadre claimed that one NDFB(S) leader has urged the guerrillas to be alert on their way and cautioned DGP Khagen Sarma.

The NDFB (S) which broke away from parent NDFB that is now in truce, is fighting for a sovereign Bodoland encompassing the entire northern bank of the Brahmaputra River from Kokrajhar district in west Assam to Dhemaji in east Assam. This northern bank of the mighty river has four Lok Sabha constituencies of Kokrajhar, Mangaldai, Tezpur and Lakhimpur.
